Retail Associate Job Description

The Wild Blueberry Heritage Center is a 501(c)3 nonprofit with the mission to provide a deeper understanding of the rich history, science, and culture of the wild blueberry’s indigenous ecosystem. In 2023, the Wild Blueberry Heritage Center assumed stewardship of the beloved “blueberry dome” in Columbia Falls, Maine to promote prosperity for both the biodiverse ecosystem and small growers of Maine’s wild blueberry lands through public education and community-based programming. 

 

Job Overview:

We are seeking a responsible, engaging individual to operate the retail store during our open days this summer. The retail store is the backbone of the organization and you will serve as the face for our mission. You will be responsible for opening and closing the Center, operating the cash register, engaging with customers, and monitoring the public exhibits. This position includes being on your feet for up to 8 hours and moving boxes weighing up to 50 pounds. This position is $14.15 an hour, part-to-full time from mid-June to mid-October.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Providing friendly and warm customer service 
  • Operating the cash register
  • Serving coffee and baked goods
  • Restocking inventory
  • Keeping a clean and organized work environment
  • Counting money in the cash drawers
  • Answering exhibit-related questions

 

Qualifications:

  • Work experience as a retail cashier or similar role
  • A good understanding of the wild blueberry industry and its heritage in Maine
  • Familiarity with an Apple iPad
  • Very positive and friendly attitude; helpful approach in all customer experiences 
  • Strong language and communication skills
  • Basic math skills
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail
  • Self-motivated and trustworthy
